They say three is the magic number. Well, that’s how many museums we’ll be visiting on our next day trip from Dublin—“The Three Museums” tour on Saturday 28th September 2024 takes in Belturbet Railway Heritage Railway Station, the Cavan & Leitrim Railway Museum, and Hell’s Kitchen Railway Museum at Castlerea.
At Belturbet, we’ll visit the restored station where the narrow gauge Cavan & Leitrim Railway once met the standard gauge Great Northern Railway branchline from Clones. Tea/coffee (included in your fare) will be served here, and there will be time to look at the museum’s collection of rolling stock from both gauges.
We then head down to the other end of the old narrow gauge line, for a visit to the Cavan & Leitrim Railway Museum at Dromod. Here we will take a steam train trip on their restored 1902-vintage tank engine “Nancy”. There will also be a chance to view their newly acquired Bord na Móna Hunslet diesels, an iconic part of Ireland’s industrial heritage now otherwise disappearing.
Following Dromod, we head on to Castlerea Co Roscommon for a visit to Hell’s Kitchen Railway Museum, of which the centrepiece is A Class diesel locomotive No.A55—the only locomotive in the world to be preserved inside a pub!
This bus tour departs Connolly Luas stop, Dublin at 09:00, returning for 21:30.
Please note as we are a voluntary group with no state funding we are unable to accept OAP/Social Welfare passes. All tickets are strictly non-refundable.
This tour includes a steam train trip behind 1902-vintage tank engine "Nancy".
