About the event
Departing Dublin (Connolly Luas stop) at 10:00am, our private bus will take us out of Dublin and down to the midlands, with our first port of call being the Steam Museum at Straffan, Co Kildare. This is home to a wonderful collection of (working) stationary steam engines and engineer's models. As a special treat, the museum will have some of these machines in steam, which normally only occurs once a month. Our group will also be served tea/coffee, sandwiches and pastries, all included in the fare.
After a break for tea (included in the fare) we then head south into the neighouring county of Laois, for a visit to Ireland's first heritage railway, the Stradbally Woodland Railway. There will be plenty of opportunities for steam train rides behind their 1949-vintage ex-Bord na Móna steam locomotive No.2 "Róisín", along with some of their vintage diesel locomotives.
