The Great Southern Railway Centennial Railtour

With thanks to Iarnród Éireann,  we are celebrating the 100th anniversary of the formation of the Great Southern Railway in November 1924 with a special commemorative railtour, comprising of a day trip from Dublin to Killarney and back, but with a twist. On the outbound journey we will be taking a quick detour into Limerick Check, marking the first time a mkIV carriage set has operated over this line with passengers (and indeed, a the first ever passenger working of a mkIV set into Limerick.

This tour promises to be a relaxing day out using Intercity standard carriages and with catering trolley service on board, offering passengers the chance to indulge in some pre-Christmas shopping in Killarney while taking in the beautiful sights of the Kerry line from a comfortable express train. For railway enthusiasts, this tour offers are a rare chance to experience mkIV carriages on the branchlines to Limerick and Kerry, with 201 class locomotives also now being rare visitors to these locations. 

We are offering a number of seating classes for this trip: Standard, 'Torc' and 'Emerald'. 

Full timings will be advised in due course, subject to final confirmation with Iarnród Éireann, but expect a moring departure from Dublin Heuston in the 08:30-09:30 region.

We have different ticket options available:

€90 Standard Class Adult

€50 Standard Class Child/Under 16 (must be accompanied by an adult)

€120 "Torc Class" - includes exclusive gift, complimentary morning tea/coffe on departure in the morning and complimentary morning snacks.

€155 "Emerald Class" - includes exclusive gift, complimentary morning tea/coffe on departure in the morning, complimentary morning snacks and a reclining 1st class "City Gold" seat.

The train is wheelchair accessible and toilets are located in most carriages.

Tickets are sold on a strictly non-refundable basis.

We regret that we cannot accept OAP or other consessionary passes as we are a voluntary group with no state funding.
